Customs Broker


Are you an experienced Customs Broker looking for an opportunity with a growing New Zealand-owned logistics business? We're expanding our Air & Ocean team and are looking for a skilled Customs Broker to join us.

Flexible role options available. Ideally, this position will be filled on a full-time basis; however, we are open to considering a structured job-share arrangement for the right candidate(s). Working hours and days will be agreed in advance to ensure consistent coverage for our team and clients. This is an office-based role, based out of our Christchurch office in Islington or our Auckland office in Māngere.

As a Customs Broker, you'll play a vital role in ensuring the accurate, timely, and compliant clearance of international shipments. Working closely with customers, government authorities, carriers, and internal teams, you'llprovide expert customs advice while helping facilitate the smooth movement of cargo across air and ocean freight channels.

 

Your Day-to-Day Responsibilities Will Include:

  • Completing import and export customs clearances accurately and within required timeframes
  • Providing expert advice on tariff classifications, customs requirements, permits, and regulatory compliance
  • Ensuring compliance with NZ Customs, MPI, and other regulatory requirements
  • Coordinating with customers, carriers, government agencies, and internal teams to facilitate cargo movement
  • Managing and maintaining customs documentation and client product information
  • Arranging and coordinating inspections, fumigations, and other regulatory requirements when needed
  • Monitoring and responding to customer and customs enquiries in a timely manner
  • Ensuring costs, documentation, and system entries are accurate and complete
  • Supporting operational efficiency while delivering exceptional customer service

To succeed in this role, you'll bring:

  • Current Customs PIN and TSW (Trade Single Window) registration
  • Proven experience as a Customs Broker or Customs Entry Writer
  • Strong knowledge of NZ Customs, MPI requirements, tariff classifications, and import/export regulations
  • Experience using CargoWise and other customs or freight forwarding systems
  • High attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy
  • Strong organisational and time management skills
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • A proactive approach to customer service and problem-solving
  • A positive attitude and collaborative team mindset
